Timekeeping is the practice of recording how a lawyer's time is spent and assigning it to client matters for billing. For most of its history it was a manual task, but the technology has changed materially: the most capable tools now work passively in the background, capturing activity across the applications a lawyer already uses and drafting billing-ready entries—matter assignment, codes, and narrative—for the lawyer to review and approve rather than construct from memory.
